Keynote: "AI Factories at Scale" by AMBER's CSO Thomas Schmidt

On Friday, July 19th, at 11:00 AM, Thomas Schmidt, CSO and co-founder of AMBER, delivered a keynote titled "AI Factories at Scale." He explained how these technologies can significantly enhance business efficiency and highlighted the rapid development of AI since the introduction of ChatGPT and Transformers.

Keynote: "AI Factories at Scale" by AMBER's CSO Thomas Schmidt

In his keynote, Thomas Schmidt, CSO and co-founder of AMBER, discussed the evolution and importance of scalable AI infrastructures. Founded in 2006, AMBER is one of NVIDIA's oldest partners, starting with the development and sale of GPU-based solutions. Schmidt emphasized the evolution of AI factories, starting with the introduction of CUDA in 2006, followed by AlexNet in 2012, Transformers in 2017, and the explosion of ChatGPT in 2022, which underscored the importance of generative AI (GenAI).

Keynote: "AI Factories at Scale" by AMBER's CSO Thomas Schmidt

Schmidt described how scalable AI infrastructures meet increasing demands and presented the development of GPU clusters, from the Titan Supercluster in 2012 to modern DGX H100 systems, which offer significant performance improvements with reduced energy consumption. A central theme was energy efficiency: modern GPU systems consume significantly less energy compared to traditional CPU servers, contributing to a reduced carbon footprint.

The future of AI factories sees an increasing fusion of training and inference, requiring larger and more powerful clusters. Schmidt discussed the challenges in building and operating modern AI data centers, including the need for liquid cooling and high-performance network systems.
